Rockets Lose Final Road Match of Season to Akron

AKRON, Ohio – The Toledo women's soccer team closed out its road schedule at First Energy Stadium Sunday afternoon with a 5-0 setback to Akron.

Akron scored three first-half goals despite Toledo's tough defensive efforts. The Rockets kept up the pressure in the second half and had multiple scoring opportunities, but could not put one on target. The Zips added two more goals in the final 10 minutes of the game to earn the shutout.

Goals and Key Moments
  • 11'| GOAL Akron's Ella Hadley looked like she was going to cross the ball from the left side, but the shot went just above the reach of Toledo's goalkeeper Karson Hill to the top right corner for the opening goal.
  • 21'| GOAL Hill went up to punch the shot by Emma King, but the ball hit the crossbar and took a redirect into the goal to give Akron a 2-0 lead.
  • 24'| Senior Ashton Cassel's shot from the top of the box deflected off the crossbar, and senior Morgan Otteson's header into the net for the Toledo goal was negated by an offsides call.
  • 28'| GOAL The ball passed through three Zips' players before Laurie-Anne Renaud connected and shot the ball to the bottom center of the net for the third goal of the game.
  • 62'| Sophomore Mia Leonetti tried to redirect a shot from junior Emily Mann in front of the net, but her shot went just to the left of the goal.
  • 69'| Otteson drew out Akron's goalkeeper Penelope Cuirinier with a shot at the top of the goalbox, but was denied. Otteson then passed the rebound to Leonetti, and her shot was also kept out of the goal.
  • 80'| GOAL Emma King headed the ball shot from Katie Stafford and it went just over the reach of Hill to extend Akron's lead 4-0
  • 82'| GOAL Akron scored on another header from Stafford to push its lead to 5-0.

  • Sunday's match was the first collegiate start for redshirt freshman Olivia Watson.
