COLUMBUS, Ohio – The University of Toledo men's tennis team fell to the No. 6 ranked Ohio State, 7-0, in its first match of the year.
"We feel pretty good about some things in today's match," head coach
Al Wermer said. "Obviously there are a lot of things to work on, but I am optimistic that we can take a lot from this."
The Buckeyes got on the board early with the doubles point from wins on the No. 1 and No. 2 courts. The junior duo of
Luis Kleinschnitz and
Luka Jankovic were down 5-3 in the first set aiming for a comeback on the No. 3 court, but their match was left unfinished.
The Rockets fought hard in singles play, but dropped all their head-to-head matches against their Buckeye counterparts. Sophomore
Pawit Sornlaksup put up a tough fight against the No. 21 ranked Cannon Kingsley and senior
Cole Shoults battled hard against the No. 42 James Trotter, but their efforts came up short on the No. 1 and No. 4 courts, respectively.
Toledo heads to Bloomington, Ind. for its second stop on a five-match road series. The Rockets visit the Hoosiers of Indiana on Saturday, Jan. 22. First serve is set for 11:00 a.m. in the IU Tennis Center.
