Toledo Aims to Extend Strong Start With Weekend Home Games

9/8/2021 11:16:00 AM

TOLEDO, Ohio - Toledo will be back at Paul Hotmer Field this weekend, hosting Indiana State on Friday (Sept. 10) and Illinois on Sunday (Sept. 12).

The Rockets enter the week in the midst of the longest unbeaten streak (3-0-2) to start a season in program history and are seeking their longest win streak since 2017.

Scouting the Sycamores (2-3-1)
Indiana State is coming off a 1-1 tie in its last contest against UNC Asheville. The game marked the fifth consecutive in which the Sycamores scored one or fewer goals. ISU has tallied multiple scores in the same game just twice this season, coming against Marian (Ind.) and Eastern Illinois. Freshman forward Mackenzie Kent is the only Sycamore with multiple goals this season, registering two.  Kent is tied with sophomore forward Sasha Thompson for the team lead in assists with two.

Introduction to Illinois (2-3-0)
Toledo will be the second straight MAC opponent for the Illini, who will face Bowling Green on Sept. 9. Illinois will enter its MAC weekend with two wins, coming against Missouri and Illinois State, both on the road. Redshirt senior midfielder Hope Breslin has paced the Illini thus far, tallying five goals through the first five games. Senior forward Makena Silber follows closely with three goals. Sophomore Julia Cili has been the team's goalkeeper, allowing 11 goals in five games.

Streaks Continue
Toledo is in the midst of milestones. The Rockets (3-0-2) have already set the program record for the longest unbeaten streak to start a season (5). A win against Indiana State would put the Rockets at 3-0-0 at home to start the season, the best home start since 2008. Wins against both Indiana State and Illinois this weekend would be the most consecutive wins (5) for the Rockets since 2017, a streak that spanned five games. The longest all-time winning streak is 11, set during the 2010 season.

Dault Deja Vu
Freshman midfielder Olivia Dault repeated her success, scoring the game-winning goal for the Rockets inconsecutive games. After scoring her first career goal against Detroit Mercy, Dault has since tallied the game-winner against Dayton and Oakland, both 1-0 victories. She leads the team with three goals.

Boutorwick Remains Consistent
Sophomore goalkeeper Emma Boutorwick has been stellar in goal for the Rockets this season. Boutorwick has three shutouts through the first five games of the season and has not allowed more than one goal in a game. Boutorwick was named the MAC Defensive Player of the Week each of the first two weeks of the season.
