Toledo Falls to Miami, 14-0

TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo softball team continued its weekend series with first-place Miami on Saturday, falling to the RedHawks by a score of 14-0 at Scott Park.
 
The Rockets managed three hits on Saturday with Anna Dixon, Dayna Denner, and Riley Mohr all notching singles.
 
Miami's Courtney Vierstra improved to 16-3 after striking out six in three scoreless innings, while McKenna Schmidt was charged with the loss for the Rockets. Makenna Durieux and Sophia Schwegel also saw time in the circle for UT on Saturday.
 
Toledo and Miami will conclude their weekend series on Sunday with a Noon contest that will be televised locally on BCSN and streamed live on ESPN3.
 
How it Happened
  • Miami tagged Toledo with eight runs in the top of the first to take an early lead.
  • The Rockets put two runners on base in the bottom of the first, but were unable to bring either around to score. Dixon led off with a single and Denner reached on a base hit, but both were stranded to end the inning.
  • Riley Coyne put the RedHawks ahead, 10-0, with a two-run home run to center field in the top of the third.
  • In the bottom of the third, Munson walked and Denner was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second, but neither runner came around to cross home plate. 
  • The RedHawks added another two runs in the top of the fourth in the form of a two-run homer from Mackenzie Moore.
  • Miami capped the scoring with two runs in the top of the fifth.
