TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo softball team wrapped up its weekend series against MAC-leader Miami with a 12-3 loss to the RedHawks at Scott Park on Sunday.
Miami's Brianna Pratt (10-3) earned the win, striking out seven in four innings of work, while
Erin Hunt (14-10) was charged with the loss, striking out seven across five innings.
Toledo scattered five hits and three runs against the RedHawks, scoring one in the first and two in the bottom of the fifth.
Dayna Denner recorded the lone RBI on the game, her 26
th of the season.
Brenna Bailey,
Leah Munson, and
Sydney McKeever scored runs for UT on Sunday.
Toledo has six games on the docket this week, with a Wednesday doubleheader at Bowling Green preceding a four-game series at Ball State next weekend.
How it Happened
- The RedHawks scored one in the top of the first, but Hunt was able to get a clutch strikeout to end the inning and strand three Miami runners.
- Toledo got a run on a two-base Miami throwing error in the bottom of the first. The RedHawks shortstop made a terrific diving stop, but threw the ball away trying to get the out at second base. The error allowed Denner to reach third and Munson to score all the way from first.
- Miami added three runs in the top of the second to take a 4-1 lead.
- An RBI single and a two-run double for the RedHawks in the top of the third pushed their lead to 7-1.
- Miami put up five runs in the top of the fifth to extend its lead to 12-1, with a pair of run-scoring singles sandwiching a two-run double by Riley Coyne.
- The Rockets plated two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Bailey scored on a throwing error on McKeever's bunt single, then the latter came in to score easily on Denner's sac fly.
