Toledo Drops Pair to First-Place Miami

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo softball team dropped both games of its doubleheader to first-place Miami on Friday at Scott Park.  The RedHawks (29-7, 19-1 MAC) posted a 9-0 victory over the Rockets (19-14, 9-8 MAC) in Game One before notching an 8-0 win in Game Two.

Senior Courtney Vierstra (15-3) picked up the victory in the opener by striking out 10 and walking four over six innings. Junior Makenna Durieux (1-3) took the loss in the circle for Toledo.

Junior Brianna Pratt (9-3) earned the win in Game Two by fanning five batters and allowing one hit in four innings. Senior Erin Hunt (14-10) was the losing pitcher for the Rockets. Sophomore McKenna Schmidt was effective in 3.2 innings of relief, allowing just two hits and one run.

The two teams will continue their four-game series tomorrow with a single game at Scott Park. First pitch for the contest is scheduled for noon with the contest being televised locally on BCSN and streamed on ESPN3.

GAME ONE
  • The RedHawks plated four runs in the first on two-run singles from Maclai Branson and Mackenzie Moore.
  • Miami added single runs in the third and fourth before scoring two in the sixth to complete the scoring. 
GAME TWO
  • Miami took an early lead for a second-straight game, scoring three in the first inning on RBI singles from Allie Cummins, Maclai Branson and Mackenzie Moore.
  • Cummins' grand slam over the left-center field fence in Game Two gave the RedHawks a 7-0 lead.
