TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo women's tennis team hosts a pair of Mid-American Conference matches this weekend. The Rockets will play Northern Illinois on Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Twos Athletic Club before playing the Falcons on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at the UT Varsity Tennis Courts. Sunday's match against arch-rival BGSU will be televised locally on BCSN.
"The team is motivated to get two matches at home this weekend," head coach Tracy Mauntler said. "We are looking to build on the performance at Miami last week. Every MAC match is tough and we can't take any mental breaks."
Last Time Out
Toledo opened MAC play with a huge 5-2 win at Miami on Sunday, the first win over the RedHawks since 2007.
Miami won the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead in the match, but singles play was a different story. Sophomore Sloane Teske was victorious on the No. 2 court to tie the match at 1-1, then Miami retook the lead with a win on the No. 5 court. The Rockets won the next four matches to win their first MAC match of the year. Freshman Cassie Alcala improved to 7-2 in singles play this year with her three-set victory on the top court, then fellow freshmen Julia Kuszynski and Shalini Tallamraju won courts No. 4 and 6, respectively, to go up 4-2. Junior Eileen Carney ended the afternoon with a hard-fought victory on the No. 3 court to send the Rockets home with a 5-2 win.
Scouting Northern Illinois
The Huskies are 7-6 this year and 1-1 against MAC opponents, losing to Bowling Green but winning at Eastern Michigan last Sunday. Â Earlier this week, Maria Potsi and Anastasia Pakita were named MAC Doubles Team of the Week after going 2-0 on the top doubles court.
Scouting Bowling Green
BGSU is 5-3 this year and 1-1 in conference play, winning at NIU last Friday before losing a close battle at WMU on Sunday. The Falcons had won four straight matches prior to their loss to WMU.
