CHICAGO, Ill. – The University of Toledo women's tennis team pulled off an exciting win on Friday at UIC, defeating the Flames 4-3.

"I'm super proud of the squad today," head coach Tracy Mauntler said. "The energy was contagious during the singles matches and the girls really fed off one another. We took big steps forward today and look to stay sharp tomorrow."

UIC took the doubles point, winning on the top two courts, to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

Sophomore Sloane Teske claimed the first singles victory to grab Toledo's first point of the day. Teske trailed, 4-1, in the first set before storming back to defeat her opponent 6-4, 6-3. With the match tied at 1-1, freshman Cassie Alcala won on the No. 1 court (6-4, 6-0) to put the Rockets on top. Alcala is now 3-1 in singles play this season, having won her last three contests. Senior Patricia Panta won on court No 5 (6-4, 6-2) to make the score 3-1, putting Toledo on the brink of victory.

Freshman Shalini Tallamraju, playing on court No. 6, lost the first set but came back to win 6-2 and 6-1 to topple her UIC counterpart and hand Toledo the clinching point. It was the second singles victory of the year for the rookie from Munster, Ind.

Toledo will play at Valparaiso on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. ET.
