TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo women's tennis team toppled Valparaiso, 7-0, on the road on Saturday.

"This was probably the most competitive 7-0 match I've ever been a part of," head coach Tracy Mauntler said. "I'm so proud of the grit we displayed from beginning to end of the match. Winning all four of the three-set matches is huge, especially on the second day of a tough weekend. The improvements the players made from last weekend are incredible and I'm so proud of the effort this weekend."

Toledo claimed the doubles point despite losing on the No. 1 court. Freshman Cassia Alcala and senior Patricia Panta came back to win on court No. 3, leaving the doubles point up to court No. 2. Freshman Julia Kuszynski and junior Christina Fuller were able to outlast their Valparaiso counterpart there and give the Rockets a 1-0 lead in the match heading into singles play.

Despite the 7-0 final score, singles play was hotly contested. Playing on court No. 1, Alcala trailed 5-2 at one point before coming back to win and put Toledo up 2-0 in the match. Panta was the next to finish, defeating her Valpo opponent in straight sets. The final four singles matches all went three sets, with sophomore Sloane Teske winning on court No. 2 to provide the Rockets with the clinching point.

Next up for the Rockets are two warm weather matches in the state of Florida. Toledo plays at USF on Wednesday, March 3 at noon before facing Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday, March 6, also at noon.
