MACON, Ga. - The Toledo women's tennis team opened its spring training trip with an afternoon match against Mercer, falling 7-0 to the Bears in Macon, Ga. on Monday. 
 
"We are down here to get experience playing outside and we got some solid experience today," said head coach Tracy Mauntler. "We got beat by a better outdoor team, but I saw progress on a lot of courts."  
 
In doubles action, freshman Sloane Teske/graduate student Zina Mehikic posted a 6-4 win on the No. 3 court over Anna Sovic/Alara Hollyfield. 
 
The Rockets were unable to tally a point in singles play. Senior Dee Dee Leenabanchong and sophomore Eileen Carney locked into three-set battles on the No. 1 and No. 2 courts, respectively. On the No. 1 court, Leenabanchong fell 1-6 in her first set to Maeva Roquebert before flipping the script to win the second 6-1. Leenabanchong dropped the third set 3-6. On the No. 2 court Elieen Carney was edged out 4-6 by Hollyfield, before bouncing back 6-2 in the second. Carney was unable to seal the win, falling 3-6 in the third set.
