Toledo in 10th Place After 36 Holes at Border Olympics

2/24/2020 8:53:00 PM

LAREDO, Texas – The Toledo men's golf team sits in 10th place following Monday's first two rounds of the University of Houston's Border Olympics. The Rockets shot rounds of 296 and 291 at the par-72, 7,220-yard Max Mandel Municipal Golf Course and are just five strokes out of fifth place.

"We had some decent rounds today and just to need to work on cutting down unforced errors tomorrow," Head Coach Jeff Roope said. "The wind came from a different direction today which changed some of our club selection and probably contributed to a couple of hiccups. For the most part our guys played at a highly competitive level."

Toledo's top four golfers are separated by four strokes with senior Rasmus Broholt Lind tied for 27th place and setting the pace at two-over par 146 (70-76). Lind was tied for fourth place at two-under par in the individual standings through 30 holes following an eagle and a birdie. An unfortunate quadruple bogey on his next-to-last hole kept him from finishing his day under par.

Senior Nate Thomson is one stroke behind Lind at three-over par 147 (74-73), while senior Grant Godfrey is another shot back at four-over par 148 (76-72). Sophomores Muhammed Afif Mohd Fathi (76-73=149) and David Amm (79-73=152) round out the Rocket lineup.

Sam Houston State leads the 17-team field at 11-under par 565. The Bearkats also have the top two individuals in the field with Noah Steele at nine-under par 135 and Willie Holcomb at six-under 138.

Tomorrow's final round will begin with an 8:00 a.m. (CT) shotgun start.
