TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo women's track and field team is sending three competitiors to the David Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University in Boston, Mass. on Friday, while the bulk of the team is set to compete at the GVSU Big Meet in Allendale, Mich. Friday and Saturday.

Last Time Out
Junior Meltem Yasar and senior Petronela Simiuc posted seventh-place finishes in the 3,000 meters (9:48.69) and mile (4:42.40), respectively at the JDL Camel City Elite in Winston-Salem, N.C. The bulk of the squad traveled to Akron, where they competed in the Akron Invitational, posting seven personal-bests and eight top-10 finishes. Senior Atalia Lima placed second in the pentathlon (3410 points). In the blue division long jump senior Yana Khabina placed second (5.50m), while in the gold division long jump fellow senior Raynesha Lewis posted a personal-best leap of 5.93m to take third. On the track, junior Michelle Hostettler clocked a time of 5:07.10 in the blue division mile, landing in second place.

Last Time at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational
Five Rockets competed at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University in Boston, Mass. last season. In the mile, Simiuc posted a time of 4:42.92, moving to third in Toledo's All-Time record for the event. Simiuc currently holds Toledo's record in the mile, set on Jan. 25 in Boston, Mass. Also in the mile, Athena Welsh placed 16th (4:45.14) and Janelle Noe placed 32nd (4:51.43). In the 5,000 meters, Jennifer Lichter placed 15th (16:54.63) and Claire Steigerwald placed 16th (16:54.63).

Last Time at the GVSU Big Meet
The Midnight Blue and Gold headed to Grand Valley State last year for the GVSU Open, but the last time the Rockets competed in the GVSU Big Meet was Feb. 9, 2013. Mackenzie Chojnacky was one of three runners to surpass the meet record of 16:28.71 in the 5,000 meters event. Chojnacky placed second with a final mark of 16:25.38. Brooke Tullis placed fourth in the same race with a time of 16:32.56. The Rockets notched a total of six top-10 finishes on the day.
