8/28/2019 11:19:00 AM

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo women's soccer team will welcome UIC to Paul Hotmer Field on Thursday, Aug. 29 for their home opener. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. The Rockets' game will be the first time the soccer program will be playing on UToledo's main campus since the 1996 season, and the team will formerly recognize Mr. Hotmer prior to kickoff of Thursday's match.

"UIC is off to strong start and has improved significantly from last season," said head coach TJ Buchholz. "They are well coached and will be a great test for our home opener. We're also very excited to be playing on the main campus for the first time, and can't wait to see what we will accomplish."

Following Thursday's match, the Rockets will have a week to prepare for their next game, as they welcome Oakland to Paul Hotmer Field on Thursday, Sept. 5.

OPENING IX
  • Toledo has won the only matchup against the Flames, securing a 6-1 victory last season.
  • The Rockets' game against UIC will be the first match held on UToledo's main campus since Oct. 27, 1996, when the Rockets defeated Buffalo, 2-1, at Carter Field.
  • Redshirt-freshman Adrianna Brewer started the first two games for the Rockets, amassing 12 saves through 190 minutes of play.
  • Redshirt-freshman Maddie Wilhoite made her first appearance in the Midnight Blue and Gold, starting the second half at center back against Purdue.
  • Freshman Madison Medalle led the Rockets against Purdue, recording two shots on goal.
  • Twenty players return to the roster this year, including goalkeeper Madison Perrin, along with forwards Sophia Lewis and Alex Troy. Perrin recorded 68 saves last year, securing seven wins for the Rockets. Lewis and Troy combined for seven goals and seven assists.
  • As a team, the Rockets scored 31 goals in 2018, just five goals behind the No. 5 spot in single-season history.
  • The freshmen bring impressive resumes to the Glass City. Forward Madison Medalle and goalkeeper Emma Boutorwick are three-time club soccer national championship team members.
  • Sophomore Ashton Cassel will look to have an immediate impact in the middle third. Cassel was named to the MAC All-Freshmen squad last season, contributing four assists and a goal.
  • UIC is 0-1-1 this season, tying with Mid-American Conference member Central Michigan, 0-0, last week.
