Columbus, Ohio— The Toledo baseball team visited the Ohio State Buckeyes on Wednesday night and left Columbus on the wrong end of a 9-4 decision.
After OSU scored two quick runs in the first, the Rockets tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the second. The Buckeyes, however, rattled off seven unanswered runs to take a commanding lead that Toledo was unable to overcome.
Senior
Brad Boss, freshmen
Frank Ciacchi and
Mark Mohnickey all recorded two hits at the plate, marking the first multi-hit effort for the two rookies. Ciacchi also walked once and scored twice.
The Rockets used eight pitchers on Wednesday night, with senior
Axel Bueter leading the way at 1.2 innings pitched. Sophomore
Kyle Bischoff threw a terrific seventh inning, striking out the side with ease. Junior
Austin Calopietro also tallied three strikeouts on the night. Freshman
Jamie Myers started the game on the mound and UT saw action from fellow freshmen
Kyle Jones and
Aric McAtee, as well as seniors
Chris Hampton and
Jake Stout.
Toledo will host Western Michigan this weekend, with the series beginning on Friday afternoon. First pitch for that contest is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. at Scott Park.
