MUNCIE, Ind. - Toledo (15-9, 7-6 MAC) will travel to Mid-American Conference West Division rival Ball State (7-18, 2-11 MAC) on Saturday, Feb. 23 looking to get back to its winning ways. Tip-off time is set for 4:30 p.m. in Worthen Arena and can be seen on ESPN3.
The Rockets are currently in seventh place in the overall MAC standings with five regular-season contests remaining.
If the MAC Tournament started before Saturday's divisional match-up, UT would be the No. 7 seed and host No. 10 seed Western Michigan (8-16, 2-11 MAC) in a first-round contest on Monday, March 11. Miami (20-4, 11-2 MAC), Ohio (21-3, 10-3 MAC), Central Michigan (19-6, 10-3 MAC) and Buffalo (17-7, 9-4 MAC) would hold byes to Cleveland as the top four seeds.
UT is coming off a 65-56 home setback against the MAC East Division leading RedHawks on Wednesday.
Senior
Kaayla McIntyre paced Toledo with a season-tying best 24 points vs. Miami, to go along with nine boards and three blocked shots. McIntyre converted 11-of-17 shots from the field and 2-of-3 from the charity stripe to surpass the 20-point barrier for a second-straight game and seventh time this year.
In two match-ups against Miami this season, the Toledo native averaged 23.5 points and shot 65.6 percent (21-of-32) from the floor.
Senior
Mikaela Boyd added 10 points and eight caroms in a squad-tying best 36 minutes. Junior
Sara Rokkanen also chipped in seven points off the bench and junior
Mariella Santucci had six points and a contest-tying high five helpers.
Toledo did a majority of its damage close to the basket, finishing with a decisive 40-24 edge in points in the paint.
UT, which sports a 6-6 record away from home, is fueled offensively by the quartet of McIntyre, sophomore
Nakiah Black, Boyd and junior
Mariella Santucci, who are averaging 16.1, 10.7, 9.7 and 9.4 ppg, respectively.
The Rockets will battle a Ball State squad that is in the midst of a seven-game losing skid. Most recently, the Cardinals suffered a 97-58 home loss vs. Buffalo on Wednesday. Nakeya Penny led BSU with 10 points vs. the Bulls, followed closely by Oshlynn Brown and Maliah Howard-Bass with nine points each.
Ball State, which is 6-6 at home, features three players scoring at least 9.9 ppg led by Brown's 13.3 ppg, 9.1 rpg, 0.7 bpg and 1.2 spg.
UT and BSU will meet for the second time this year and 81st time overall. The Rockets secured a 65-58 home triumph against the Cardinals on Jan. 5 in their MAC opener before 3,473 fans in Savage Arena.
Toledo leads the all-time series, 55-25, and has won three of the last four meetings against its division foe. The Rockets also hold a 23-15 advantage in games played in Muncie.
A year ago, UT suffered a 78-73 road setback vs. BSU in Worthen Arena (Feb. 24).
Following tomorrow's MAC West Division match-up, the Rockets will host division rival Western Michigan (8-16, 2-11 MAC) on Wednesday, Feb. 27. The opening tip against the Broncos is slated for 7:00 p.m. in Savage Arena and will be shown on ESPN+.
UT and WMU will square off for the second time this year and 80th time overall. The Rockets registered an 80-57 road win against the Broncos on Jan. 16 in University Arena.
