Dayton, Ohio—Toledo dropped its final non-conference contest of the regular season on Tuesday, falling at Dayton by a score of 4-2.
Senior
Brad Boss and freshman
John Servello drove in the Rockets' runs against the Flyers. Servello had two hits, as did senior
Matt Hansen and sophomore
Michael Ryan. Pitching-wise, UT sent seven hurlers to the mound on Tuesday. Freshman
Alec Bukowski, and juniors
Chris Hampton,
Luke Schaefer, and
Jake Stout all held the Flyers scoreless in their outings.
UT scored a run in the top of the first to take the lead, but UD tied the game in the bottom of the second. The Flyers pulled ahead with a run in the fourth and held an advantage until the top of the sixth, when the Rockets tied the game yet again. The stalemate didn't last long though, and Dayton scored the eventual winning runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure a win over the Midnight Blue and Gold.
Toledo concludes the regular season this weekend with a crucial three-game home series against rival Bowling Green. The first game between the Rockets and Falcons is on Thursday at 3:05 p.m.
How it Happened
- Toledo jumped out to an early lead, scoring once in the top of the first. Hansen singled on the first pitch of the game, stole second base, and reached third on a UD throwing error. He then scored on Servello's RBI single to put UT ahead, 1-0.
- Dayton tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second on a two-out, bases loaded walk.
- Back-to-back singles, followed by a sacrifice fly, gave the Flyers a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth.
- Toledo tied it back up in the sixth. junior Ross Adolph drew a leadoff walk and made his way to third on senior Dalton Bollinger's double. Boss became the third-straight Rocket to reach base with an RBI single up the middle and tied the game at 2-2.
- Dayton didn't stay down long. Two straight singles led off the inning for UD, and after a successful sacrifice bunt, Takahiro Yamada's double down the left field line brought both runners home to put Toledo down, 4-2.
- The Rockets had good chances in the sixth and seventh, but stranded two runners in each inning without pushing a run across the plate.
- Bukowski threw the final inning for Toledo, sending down all three batters he faced. The freshman has now made five appearances this year and has yet to allow a run.
