How it Happened
- For the second straight day, Eastern Michigan drew first blood with a run in the top of the first. A fielder's choice groundout to shortstop gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead before the Rockets had a chance to swing the bats.
- Once Toledo got in the batter's box, though, it didn't take long to tie the game. Senior AJ Montoya's single through the left side of the infield brought home junior Ross Adolph to tie the game at 1-1.
- Eastern Michigan scored once in the third and twice in the fourth to jump ahead, 4-1. An RBI single, sacrifice fly, and bases loaded walk brought in the EMU runs.
- Toledo pulled within one, 4-3, with two scores in the bottom of the fourth. Freshman Trace Hatfield's sacrifice fly and Bollinger's single to left field both brought in runs for UT. Senior Brad Boss tried to score on Bollinger's two-out single, but was thrown out at the plate.
- Calopietro came into the game in the top of the sixth and, with two outs, forced the EMU hitter to roll a weak ground ball. Instead of ending the inning, the ball was mishandled and allowed a run to score, putting Toledo down 5-3.
- UT found itself in a little trouble in the top of the seventh. With runners on first and second with no outs, the EMU hitter weakly popped up to the left side of the infield. Hatfield made a spectacular diving catch, then a heads-up throw to second base to double up the runner.
- The big inning for the Rockets came in the bottom of the seventh. Bollinger led off with a home run to left field, his first of the year. The next run came in on a play nearly identical to the one that won Toledo the game on Friday. Sophomore Michael Ryan laid down a sacrifice bunt that was fielded by the pitcher, but the throw sailed over the first baseman's head, allowing Montoya to score.
- UT took the lead when Meyers scored on a wild pitch, and Ryan touched the plate on a sacrifice fly by Boss.
