Athens, Ga.— On the tenth day of its road trip, Toledo dropped both games of a doubleheader to Georgia. The Bulldogs won game one by a score of 8-3 and took game two, 7-6, in 10 innings.
The Rockets scored late runs in both games on Saturday, but were able to come all the way back in game two to tie it up. Despite forcing extra innings against Georgia in the second game, UT fell at the hands of a walk-off sacrifice fly.
Freshman
John Servello had a team-best three hits combined today, and six other Rockets had two hits. Senior
Matt Hansen scored three runs during the twin bill to lead UT, with Servello and junior
Ross Adolph both touching home plate twice.
Toledo's first home game is this Wednesday, March 14 at 3:05 p.m. against Findlay. After that, the Rockets have a weekend series at Cincinnati.
Game one: Georgia 8, Toledo 3
It didn't take long for Georgia to take the lead in game one. The Bulldogs scored seven runs in the first two innings to take a commanding lead they would not relinquish. Toledo did have much more success against UGA offensively than it did Friday night, scoring three runs on 10 hits. Adolph, senior
Brad Boss, and freshman
Zach Schwartzenberger all had two hits apiece, while senior
Casey Gose, sophomore
Michael Ryan, and Schwartzenberger drove in the runs for UT. Boss extended his on-base streak to 13 games.
How it Happened
- UGA wasted no time offensively, scoring twice in the bottom of the first inning on a two-run double.
- The second inning was a tough one for UT. Georgia scored five runs, all with two-out singles. A couple two-out walks helped extend the inning for the Bulldogs.
- Toledo had chances in the first two innings, putting two men on base in each frame. It wasn't until the third inning that the Rockets capitalized when Ryan drove in a run on a sacrifice fly.
- UT drew three straight walks in the third inning to load the bases, which led to its first run of the game.
- Junior Billy Todorowski entered in the third inning and pitched two scoreless frames, striking out two. He worked himself out of trouble in the third, getting out of a bases loaded jam with no outs.
- A wild pitch in the sixth inning brought in another run for UGA, putting the score at 8-1.
- The Rocket offense produced two runs in the eighth inning and five hitters reached base. The runs came courtesy of RBI singles by Servello and Gose. Servello smacked a line drive right up the middle, while Gose's blooper to left dropped safely between three UGA fielders.

Game two: Georgia 7, Toledo 6 (10)
The Bulldogs scored early again in game two, but the Rockets fought hard and battled all the way back in the eighth inning, tying the game at 6-6. Terrific work from sophomore
Austin Calopietro out of the bullpen kept Toledo alive late in the game and helped send the contest to extras. UGA then handed the Rockets a walk-off defeat with a sacrifice fly to center field.
Calopietro was very effective out of the pen this road trip, not allowing a run in his three appearances and striking out eight.
How it Happened
- Georgia once again scored in the bottom of the first inning, this time on an RBI single to left field.
- The first home run of the day came off the bat of UGA's C.J. Smith and sailed over the fence in right field. The three-run homer extended the Rockets' deficit to 4-0.
- Toledo scored its first run of the game in the top of the sixth. Hansen was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, and two batters later Servello drove him in with an RBI triple driven deep into the gap in right center field.
- An RBI double into the gap in the bottom of the sixth inning extended the UGA lead to 6-1.
- The Rockets roared back in the seventh inning, scoring four runs to pull within one. Boss drove in Gose on a sacrifice fly and then, with two outs, Ryan drew a bases loaded walk. Freshman Trace Hatfield then drove in two runs on a single up the middle to bring his team within one, 6-5.
- In the top of the eighth inning, Meyers singled to left field and was lifted for a pinch runner, junior Riley Campbell. After stealing second base, Campbell scored the tying run on Hansen's screaming line drive to the first baseman.
- The Rockets got into a little trouble in the bottom of the eighth and UGA loaded the bases. Calopietro came into the game and shut the Bulldogs down by striking out the next three batters to end the inning. He ended up throwing two innings, struck out five and did not allow a hit, keeping Toledo alive long enough to get to extra innings.
- The game ended in the tenth inning with a sacrifice fly. Georgia loaded the bases with no outs and LJ Talley drove a ball to center field deep enough to score the game-winning run.
