Toledo, Ohio - The University of Toledo's women's tennis team is set to travel to California this week for three matches ahead of the start of Mid-American Conference play. UT's west-coast competitors include the CSU-Fullerton Titans, the UC-Riverside Highlanders and the UC-Irvine Anteaters. UT takes on the Titans on Tuesday, the Highlanders on Wednesday and the Anteaters on Thursday. All three matches are set to begin at 1:30 p.m. PST.
Â
The Rockets are currently on a six-match winning streak. Another win would tie head coach Tracy Mauntler's longest streak while leading UT. Toledo won seven-straight under Mauntler in the 2010 and 2013 seasons.
Â
Each match this week is set to be played outdoors, and Mauntler is looking forward to the break from indoor courts.
Â
"It is so important to get the opportunity to play outside because most of our MAC matches will be played outdoors," Mauntler said. "Playing under pressure with all the outdoor elements will be great experience as we move on through the season."
Â
The trip will also serve as an opportunity for the team to strengthen relationships.
Â
"I always feel that spring break trips are important for team bonding," Mauntler said. "Living together, training together, eating meals together, and spending downtime together for a week really brings the players closer. The better the relationships the players have with each other, the more they will fight and work for each other on the court."
