Toledo Takes On Cleveland State, Notre Dame in Weekend Contests

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo women's soccer team returns from its west coast trip to do battle with Cleveland State and Notre Dame this weekend. The Rockets travel to the Vikings on Friday, Sept. 8 for a 7:00 p.m. contest and host the Fighting Irish on Sunday, Sept. 10 at Scott Park with kickoff scheduled for 1:05 p.m.

The Rockets (1-3-1) experienced a pair of losses last weekend at the hands of UC Riverside and UC Irvine. UT fell 2-1 in the first contest with Riverside and was downed 3-0 by Irvine in the final match of the weekend. Senior captain Isa Echeverri scored the lone goal for the Midnight Blue & Gold, the 15th tally of her career at Toledo.

Cleveland State (3-4-0) has a schedule full of Mid-American Conference opponents to start the season. After a loss to Xavier in the season opener, the Vikings earned a 2-1 win over defending MAC champion Kent State. CSU lost to Ohio, 1-0, but bounced back to defeat Akron, 1-0 in double overtime.

Toledo holds a spotless 4-0-0 record all-time against Cleveland State, posting shutouts in each of the four contests. The two teams met last season, resulting in a 1-0 Toledo victory at Scott Park. UT and CSU have had one common opponent this year, Canisius, each team notching 2-0 triumphs.

Notre Dame (3-1-2) entered the 2017 campaign ranked as the No. 18 team in the nation. Since then, ties with Butler (0-0) and Minnesota (1-1), along with a 1-0 loss to South Carolina knocked the Fighting Irish out of the Top 25. The Irish have been dominant in their three wins, posting scores of 4-0, 2-0 and 4-1.

The Rockets have dropped three matches to Notre Dame in program history. UND came away with a 3-0 win in the two team's last meeting in 2015.

The women's soccer team closes the non-conference schedule with a Sunday, Sept. 17 match against Valparaiso in Toledo.
