TOLEDO, Ohio - JuniorsÂ
Alena Sidwell and
Hannah Scafaria each netted a goal to lead the Rockets over Valparaiso in the non-conference finale on a sunny senior day Sunday at Scott Park.
Toledo (3-4-1) honored seniors
Alexis Burdick,
Isa Echeverri,
Chiara Paradiso,
Sophie Pohl,
Sydney Vinton and
Christina Williams before the opening kickoff.Â
Once play began, the UT juniors took over. Scafaria found Sidwell for an easy, tap-in goal to put the Rockets ahead, 1-0, in the 23rd minute. Toledo led by the same margin as the teams went to halftime.
Scafaria got into the scoring act herself as the second half clock struck the 53rd-minute mark. Scafaria's second goal of the season gave the Rockets a comfortable 2-0 edge.
The two-tally lead was more than enough for the Toledo defense as redshirt freshman goalkeeper
Madison Perrin made six saves to record her fourth shutout of the campaign.Â
Valpo (5-5-0) was led by Cory Griffith who took five shots. Kezia Gesell made four stops in goal for the Crusaders.
The Rockets out-shot the Crusaders, 10-9, and both teams took a pair of corner kicks in the contest.
The women's soccer team will start Mid-American Conference action on Friday, Sept. 22 when it plays host to Miami at 4:05 p.m.
