Toledo Sits in Third Place Following First Day at MAC Championships

NASHPORT, Ohio – Toledo sits in third place following Friday's opening two rounds of the 2017 Mid-American Conference Men's Golf Championships. The 72-hole event is being played at The Virtues Golf Club (Par-72, 7,243 Yards).
The Rockets fired a team score of 12-over par 589 (289-300) and trail only defending champion Kent State and Ball State with marks of one-under par 575 (287-288) and six-over par 582 (294-288), respectively.
Junior co-captain Colin Joseph is pacing UT at one-under par 143 (74-69) to sit tied for fifth. The Loveland, OH native recorded a team-high eight birdies over the course of today's 36 holes and is just one of six golfers to be under par at the league's premier event.
Also registering a solid first-day score for the Midnight Blue & Gold was freshman Joe Bryce at even-par 144 (70-74) to stand alone in seventh place.
Freshman Thomas Thurloway (72-79) and sophomore Spencer Shoemaker (73-78) each shot seven-over par 151 to sit tied for 18th place, while junior co-captain Stephen Watts is tied for the 41st spot at 16-over par 160 (78-82). Â
Individually, Ball State's Johnny Watts (69-69) and KSU's Gisli Sveinbergsson (68-70) sit on top of the leader board at six-under par 138, two shots ahead of Miami's Patrick Flavin (69-71) and Eastern Michigan's Kyle Rodes (69-71).
Toledo will play tomorrow's third round with front runner KSU and second-place BSU. UT's tee times will be 12:10 p.m., 12:20 p.m., 12:30 p.m., 12:40 p.m. and 12:50 p.m.
