Toledo Finishes in 14th Place at Boilermaker Invitational

WEST LAFAYETTE, IN – Freshman Joe Bryce carded a team-best one-under par 71 on Sunday as Toledo registered a 14th-place finish at the Boilermaker Invitational. The tourney was hosted by Big Ten member Purdue at the Kampen Course (Par-72, 7423 Yards).
Bryce tied for 13th place among 84 competitors in the individual standings at three-over par 219 (71-77-71) to be UT's top finisher in the third-consecutive event.
Junior co-captain Colin Joseph finished seven strokes behind Bryce and tied for the 42nd spot at 10-over par 226 (79-74-73), followed by freshman Thomas Thurloway and junior captain Stephen Watts, who recorded scores of 16-over par 232 (79-78-75) and 17-over par 233 (78-80-75) to place tied for 67th and tied for 70th place, respectively.
Rounding out the Rockets' lineup was freshman Grant Godfrey with a mark of 23-over par 239 (81-83-75) and tied for the 78th spot. Â
Mid-American Conference member Kent State won the team title with a tally of one-over par 865 (285-296-284). The Golden Flashes held a five-stroke advantage over the host Boilermakers (870) and a 45-shot advantage against the Midnight Blue & Gold. Â Â
As a unit, the Rockets fired a team score of 46-over par 910 (307-309-294) to find themselves 14th among 15 squads.
Individually, the Golden Flashes' Bjarki Petursson captured medalist honors at four-under par 212 (73-69-70), edging out teammate Josh Whalen (213) by one stroke.
The Rockets will now turn their attention to the MAC Championships at the Virtues Club in Nashport, OH on Friday-Sunday, April 28-30. Toledo will look for its first league title since 2004.
