Toledo to Host BGSU in First-Round MAC Tourney Game on Monday at 8:00 pm

QUICK HITTERS

•  Toledo (16-15, 9-9 MAC) looks to carry over the momentum from Friday's 60-56 road win over Eastern Michigan when its hosts arch-rival Bowling Green (13-18, 7-11 MAC) in the first round of the 2017 Mid-American Conference Tournament presented by VisitMyrtleBeach.com. Tip-off time is set for 8:00 p.m. in Savage Arena with ESPN3 streaming the game.

•  The Rockets are the No. 7 seed in this year's tourney, while the Falcons are the No. 10 seed. The winner of Monday's matchup will face No. 2 seed Ohio in the MAC quarterfinals on Thursday, March 9 at 6:30 p.m. in Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arena.

•  Toledo defeated BGSU at home 85-73 but dropped a 104-100 (2OT) decision on the road.

•  Toledo is hosting a first-round game in the MAC Tournament for the first time since 2012 when it posted a 60-53 home win over Miami.

•  UT possesses a 3-1 win-loss mark against Bowling Green in the MAC Tournament. The Rockets have posted wins in 1980, 2006 and 2008 with its only defeat coming in 1997.

•  The Midnight Blue and Gold has a 28-31 all-time record in the MAC Tournament and is 7-5 in first-round games. UT is 9-2 in MAC Tournament home games and is 5-0 in first-round matchups utilizing the current tourney setup.

•  Rocket seniors Jordan Lauf (career-high 17 pts.), Jonathan Williams (14 pts.) and Steve Taylor, Jr. (11 pts.) each scored in double digits in UT's 60-56 win at EMU last Friday.

•  Williams ranks third in the MAC with a team-high 19.7 ppg. He also leads UT with an 81.4 FT%, 131 FTs made and 161 FTs attempted and averaged 3.7 apg in league play.

•  Taylor ranks second in team scoring with 15.6 ppg to go along with a MAC-best 12.5 rpg and a team-high 3.8 apg. He is tied for second nationally in rebounding (through March 3) and leads the country with 10.1 defensive rpg (ahead of Purdue's Caleb Swanigan 9.8 mark). In addition, Taylor's 23 double-doubles rank third in the nation.

•  The Rockets have tied a national record with eight overtime games that was previously held by Western Kentucky (1978), Portland (1984) and Valparaiso (1993). UT's previous record for overtime games was five in the 1971-72 campaign.

•  The Falcons, who rank 11th in the MAC in FG% (42.5) and 10th in scoring offense (72.3), lost their last two games of the regular season at home to Kent State (74-67) and at Buffalo (80-68).

•  Senior guard Zack Denny is one of three Falcons scoring in double figures with a team-high 12.9 ppg. He is joined by senior forward Wes Alcegaire (11.4) and sophomore forward Demajeo Wiggins (10.0 ppg, team-high 8.0 rpg).


POST-GAME NOTES FROM UT'S 60-56 VICTORY OVER EASTERN MICHIGAN

•  Toledo swept its season series against EMU for the first time since the 2012-13 season.

•  The Rockets have outrebounded their opponent in eight of their last nine games and have a plus-8.4 rebounding margin in their last five contests.

•  Toledo's 24 first-half points were one point higher than its season low registered at Kent State.

•  Toledo improved to 14-4 when leading with five minutes remaining.

•  The Rockets are 14-5 when shooting 45 percent or higher and 10-5 when holding their opponent under a 45.0 FG%.

•  UT is 14-3 when posting a higher shooting mark than its opponent.

•  Toledo won for just the fourth time on 13 occasions this season when three or fewer Rockets scored in double digits.

•  UT is 6-0 when holding its opponent under 60 points and won for the first time in four games when scoring under 70 points.

•  Senior guard Jonathan Williams has 1,721 points, 93 points away from the No. 4 spot.

•  Senior forward Steve Taylor Jr. set a school record with 376 rebounds this season, surpassing the 371 boards grabbed by Doug Hess, who averaged 15.5 rpg in the 1969-70 campaign. Taylor's 13.2 rpg in conference play ranks fourth in school history, trailing only Hess (14.9/1969-70), Ray Wolford (14.5/1962-63) and Bob Aston (13.8/1965-66).

•  Taylor also finished just one assist shy of his career high, nine vs. Northern Illinois (Jan. 28).

•  Senior guard Jordan Lauf registered career highs for points (17), field goals (8) and field-goal attempts (13) and led the Rockets in scoring for the first time in his career. He also collected eight rebounds, marking the ninth straight contest he has grabbed seven or more boards, and led UT in steals for a team-best 15th time this season.

•  Redshirt freshman center Luke Knapke tied his season high with three blocked shots and also matched the most rejections by a Rocket this season.

TAKING A CLOSER LOOK AT TOLEDO'S 2016-17 MEETINGS VS. BOWLING GREEN

•  Toledo jumped out to a double-digit lead early in both matchups. UT led by a 12-2 margin with 16:35 remaining in the first half in the Stroh Center on Feb. 4. The Rockets held a 17-6 advantage with 14:37 left in the first half in Savage Arena on Jan. 17.

•  Senior guard Jonathan Williams was one of four Rockets to score more than 17.0 ppg with 22.0 ppg. Sophomore Nate Navigato averaged 19.0 ppg with a 71.4 3PFTG% (10-of-14), senior Steve Taylor, Jr. tallied 17.5 ppg and a team-best 12.5 rpg and sophomore Jaelan Sanford notched 17.0 ppg with a 65.0 FG%.

•  Toledo posted a 55.1 FG%, 47.9 3PTFG% (23-of-48) and a 58.2 FT% (32-of-55), while Bowling Green registered a 50.0 FG%, 38.7 3PTFG% (12-of-31) and 65.9 FT% (29-of-44).

•  Zack Denny topped the Falcons with 20.0 ppg with a 50.0 3PTFG% (0-for-5 at UT, 5-for-5 at BG) with Wes Alcegaire (18.0 ppg, 53.8 FG%) and Demajeo Wiggins (17.5, 9.0 rpg, 65.2 FG%) also scoring in double figures.

FOUR ROCKETS RANKED AMONG TOP 30 IN MAC LEAGUE SCORING

        Toledo and Buffalo are the only schools to have four players appear in the Mid-American Conference's Top 30 scorers in league play. Senior Jonathan Williams ranks fourth with 19.6 ppg and is followed by senior Steve Taylor, Jr. (11th/15.6 ppg), sophomore Jaelan Sanford (21st/13.6 ppg) and sophomore Nate Navigato (T-29th/11.2 ppg).
