
Toledo Plays Pair of Midweek Games vs. Michigan, Oakland

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Rockets are scheduled to play a pair of midweek games at the University of Michigan and home against Oakland University on Tuesday, March 28 and Wednesday, March 29, respectively. Tuesday's game will start at 4:00 p.m. with Wednesday starting at 7:05 p.m. The Oakland game will be played at Mercy Field in Toledo.
Freshman Layne Schnitz-Paxton will take the ball on Tuesday and fellow freshman Austin Calopietro will toe the rubber on Wednesday.
Toledo (5-18, 0-3 MAC) is coming off of a three-game set against Northern Illinois in which it fell in all three contests. The Rockets dropped games by scores of 16-2, 7-4 and 9-3 with the middle contest lasting 11 innings.
Junior outfielder AJ Montoya leads the team with a .291 batting average, 25 hits, nine doubles and 17 RBIs. Montoya has reached safely in 21-straight games and currently has a nine game hitting streak. Sophomore Riley Campbell has raised his average significantly in the last week and is now hitting .289 on the year.
Michigan (17-6, 1-2 Big Ten) lost two of three games against Maryland in their last series. Prior to that, the Wolverines defeated Mid-American Conference member Northern Illnois in 3-of-4 games and beat Western Michigan in a midweek contest. Earlier in the season, Michigan strung together a streak of 11 wins in 12 games.Â
Michael Brdar leads the club in hitting at a .333 average. Harrison Wenson and Drew Lugbauer hit .232 and .225, respectively, and co-lead the team with five home runs on the season.Â
Oakland (2-18, 1-2 Horizon League) fell in the opening two games of the season before earning its first win. A 14-game losing skid brought the Golden Grizzlies' record to 1-16. Oakland split its most recent series 1-2 with Youngstown State to bring its current record to 2-18.
Zach Sterry leads the team with a .359 batting average and five home runs, 19 RBIs and 13 runs scored. The Oakland pitching staff has a combined ERA of 7.71 on the campaign.
