ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Rockets had multiple base runners in just one inning and were blanked, 12-0, by No. 22 Michigan on Tuesday afternoon at Ray Fisher Stadium.
Toledo (5-19, 0-3 MAC) collected seven hits in total, five of which came in five separate innings. UT also drew just one ninth-inning walk in the contest.Â
Michigan (18-6, 1-2 Big Ten) rallied for four runs in the second innings off of freshman starting pitcher Layne Schnitz-Paxton. A pair of singles and walk loaded the bases, and a bases-loaded walk forced home the first run of the game. The Wolverines struck with two outs in the inning on a two-run single and an RBI single in immediate succession, making the score 4-0.
The Rockets best opportunity to score was in the third inning as junior Brad Boss hit a one-out single to right. With Boss in motion, sophomore Riley Campbell singled through the right side to put runners on first and third with one out. The Wolverines were able to get out of the inning by inducing a ground ball double play to retire the side.
Junior Dalton Bollinger doubled to start the Toledo fourth, but was eventually stranded in scoring position.Â
UM used the middle innings to stretch the lead to 9-0 with a five-run fifth and 12-0 with a three-run sixth.
Freshman Malave Bettinger singled to left to lead off the seventh, accounting for Toledo's last hit of the contest.
Schnitz-Paxton (0-3) is charged with the loss, while Michigan's Jayce Vancena is credited with the win.
The Rockets will take on Oakland tomorrow (March 29) at 7:05 p.m. Due to field conditions, the game will be played at Mercy Field.
