Toledo Finishes Up Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play with Win Over DePaul

DADE CITY, FL – No. 5 seed Toledo tallied a 4-2 victory over No. 7 seed DePaul on Tuesday in the final round of the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play event. With the win, the Rockets finish 1-1-1 at the sixth-annual event. Mid-American Conference member Ball State served as the tournament's host at the Lake Jovita Golf Course (Par 72, 7,153 Yards).
In today's triumph over the Blue Demons, the trio of junior Colin Joseph (4&2), freshman Joe Bryce (6&5) and freshman Grant Godfrey (1 up) posted victories. Junior Stephen Watts and freshman Thomas Thurloway also earned a half point each for the Midnight Blue & Gold, as their matches ended all square.
Bryce won all three matches at this week's season-opening event, while Joseph and Godfrey emerged victorious in two of the rounds.
In Monday's action, the Rockets suffered a 5-1 setback against No. 4 seed Seton Hall and tied No. 1 seed Eastern Michigan, 3-3. Unfortunately for Toledo, the Eagles advanced to the fifth place match on a tiebreaker because they won two more holes.
The Rockets will return to the links on Monday-Tuesday, Feb. 27-28 to participate in the Louisiana Classics in Lafayette, LA.
