TOLEDO, OH - Toledo will play its lone home game in a span of two weeks when it entertains arch-rival Bowling Green on Saturday, Feb. 11. Tip-off time is slated for 7:00 p.m. in Savage Arena and the Mid-American Conference cross-division match-up will be streamed on ESPN3.
In conjunction with tomorrow's contest, UT will host the second-annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day to honor the accomplishments and hard work of female student-athletes in the classroom, in sports and in the community. The day will showcase UT's current female student-athletes, alumni and coaches and thank them for all of their hard work.
The Rockets are currently in fourth place in the MAC West Division standings, three games behind frontrunner Ball St. (17-7, 10-2 MAC), while the Falcons are tied for fourth in the MAC East Division, six contests beneath leader Ohio (17-5, 8-3 MAC).
UT will be looking to continue its momentum from a hard-fought 72-66 road triumph at Western Michigan (14-8, 5-6 MAC) on Wednesday.Â
Junior
Jay-Ann Bravo-Harriott and sophomore
Mikaela Boyd combined for 43 points to lead the Midnight Blue & Gold to its sixth-straight triumph over the Broncos.
Bravo-Harriott dropped in a season-tying best 23 points and Boyd contributed a career-high 20 against WMU to help the Rockets claim their third win in the last four games.Â
Bravo-Harriott was a one-person wrecking crew in the pivotal fourth quarter, tallying 13 of her team's 24 points to hold off a scrappy and resilient Western Michigan squad.
With the London, England native dominating the final 10 minutes, Boyd was outstanding over the course of the opening three periods, scoring 19 of her points in the first 30 minutes.
The Rockets also received 12 points from sophomore
Kaayla McIntyre to help them record their ninth win in their last 11 trips to Kalamazoo.
UT posted a 40-38 edge on the glass, spearheaded by nine caroms each from Boyd and McIntyre, followed closely by a season-high eight by Bravo-Harriott.
The Rockets also did a good job taking care of the basketball, finishing with 17 assists and 13 turnovers. That was a good ratio to see, as UT was coming off a season-low four dimes and a season-high 22 miscues at Ohio last Saturday, Feb. 4. Bravo-Harriott also led that effort with a season-best six assists.
Toledo, which is 8-4 at home, continues to be paced offensively by the quartet of senior
Janice Monakana, Bravo-Harriott, Boyd and McIntyre, who are averaging 12.5, 12.2, 11.1 and 10.0 ppg, respectively. This group is responsible for 60.2 percent of UT's scoring.
UT will take on a Bowling Green squad which has lost seven of its last eight games, including Wednesday's 91-70 road setback at MAC West Division leader BSU. Caterrion Thompson led the Falcons with 16 points off the bench, followed by Sydney Lambert and Carly Santoro with 10 points each.
BGSU, which is 3-8 away from home, features an offense with two players tallying at least 9.5 points per game, paced by Santoro's 13.1 ppg and a squad-best 7.3 rpg.
Toledo and Bowling Green will meet for the only time during the 2017 MAC campaign and the 76th time overall. The Falcons lead the all-time series, 42-33, but the Rockets have won six of the last seven meetings against their cross-division foe.
A year ago, UT swept the regular-season series, securing a 75-61 home victory (Jan. 30) and a 68-60 road win (Feb. 3).Â
Toledo also maintains an 18-14 advantage in games played in Savage Arena and has won three of the last four meetings in Lucas County.
Following tomorrow's contest, the Rockets will travel to MAC East Division foe Akron (9-13, 2-9 MAC) on Wednesday, Feb. 15. The opening tip versus the Zips is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in James A. Rhodes Arena.
UT and UA will square off for the only time during the regular season and the 52nd time overall. The Rockets lead the all-time series, 38-13, but Akron has won the last six meetings against its cross-division foe.
A season ago, UA won the regular-season match-up, 81-71, at home (Jan. 20). The teams then squared off in the quarterfinals of the MAC Tournament and the Zips secured a 73-71 overtime triumph in Quicken Loans Arena (March 9). Â
Toledo also holds a 15-7 advantage in games played in J.A.R., but has dropped four of the last six contests in Summit County.
