TOLEDO, Ohio - Senior
Sophie Pohl tapped in a loose rebound in the 86th minute to give Toledo a 2-1 win over I-75 rival Bowling Green in the regular-season finale on Thursday afternoon at Scott Park.
Pohl and the Rockets (9-7-3, 6-3-2 MAC) put the game away at the 85:09 mark when a shot from freshman
Anita Mancini on the left side was saved by Bowling Green keeper Victoria Cope. Pohl was able to get a foot on the free carom and push the ball into the back of the net.
Bowling Green (11-6-1, 6-4-1 MAC) led the match 1-0 early when Madison Schupbach found Erica Hubert for a goal just 11:54 into the contest.
It looked as though the Rockets would trail by one going into halftime, but UT put together one final offensive push before the break and it paid off. Mancini beat the keeper to the right side with just one second remaining on the first-half clock.Â
The score remained tied 1-1 in the second half and the two teams ran off over 40 scoreless minutes of physical play. Toledo and Bowling Green combined for 23 fouls on the afternoon.Â
With 4:51 remaining in regulation, Pohl's match-winner propelled the Rockets to their 10th-straight win over the Falcons.
On the afternoon, Toledo out-shot Bowling Green 13-8, while BGSU led UT in corner kicks, 7-2. Redshirt freshman
Madison Perrin made a pair of saves to record her ninth win of the campaign.
The women's soccer team now turns its attention to the Mid-American Conference Tournament where it will be the No. 3 seed on Sunday, Oct. 29. The Rockets will host No. 6 seed Western Michigan at 1:05 p.m. at Scott Park. No. 4 seed Bowling Green continues its season with a Sunday matchup against No. 5 seed Buffalo.
