ATHENS, Ohio - The Toledo women's soccer team punched its ticket to the Mid-American Conference Tournament with a 2-1 win over Ohio on Sunday afternoon at Chessa Field.
The Rockets (8-7-3, 5-3-2 MAC) busted out of their two-match scoreless drought with goals from senior captain
Isa Echeverri and junior
Alena Sidwell.
Ohio (7-9-2, 4-4-2 MAC) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 20th minute. Bobcats' leading scorer Allie Curry found the back of the net to put the Rockets behind.
UT battled back to tie the match before the half on Echeverri's equalizer. The 33rd-minute tally was the Colombian native's fifth on the campaign.
After the break, Sidwell took a pass from freshman
Claire Cahalan in the 55th minute and was able to beat the Ohio goalkeeper for what turned out to be the match winner.
Redshirt freshman
Madison Perrin was able to make the one-goal lead stand up by making a pair of saves in the contest.
Toledo out-shot the Bobcats 12-6 and were led in the category by junior captain
Hannah Scafaria who fired three shots.
With the win, the Rockets clinch their 11th conference tournament berth in the last 13 seasons. The site of the Rockets' first-round match hinges on the final day of the regular season. Toledo takes on I-75 rival Bowling Green at Scott Park on Thursday, Oct. 26 at 3:05 p.m.
