Sathika Ruenreong Concludes Rocket Career at NCAA Shoal Creek Regional

SHOAL CREEK, AL - University of Toledo senior Sathika Ruenreong saw her tremendous Rocket career come to an end on Saturday by tying for 36th place at the 2016 NCAA Shoal Creek Regional. The tournament was hosted by the University of Alabama at the par-72, 6,470-yard Shoal Creek Club course.

Ruenreong  shot a seven-over par 79 today to finish at 16-over par 232 (75-78-79). Three players - Florida State's Matilda Castren (74-71-75), Northwestern's Kacie Komoto (72-73-77) and California's Marianne Li (74-72-74) – shared medalist honors at four-over par 220. The No. 8 Wildcats captured the team title with a team score of 23-over par 887 (296-294-297), 18 strokes in front of the No. 22 Seminoles' total of 41-over par 905 (299-297-309). No. 9 Oklahoma State (907), No. 1 Alabama (907), No. 25 Tennessee (912) and No. 50 Michigan (916) also advanced to the NCAA Championships.

Ruenreong played the front nine at three-over par 39 before posting a four-over par 40 on the back nine. She could muster only one birdie on the par-three, 155-yard No. 13 hole on what proved to be the most challenging course at the four NCAA Regional sites.

"Playing in this regional was a great experience for Sathika and for me as well," Head Coach Nicole Hollingsworth said. "She played well against the best players in the nation on what was an extremely challenging golf course and ended up with a respectable finish.  Sathika has represented our program in a first-class manner, and I want to thank her for all she has done."

Ruenreong was one of 96 players, comprised of 18 teams and six individuals, who took part in the event.
