Sathika Ruenreong Tied for 25th Place at NCAA Shoal Creek Regional

SHOAL CREEK, AL - University of Toledo senior Sathika Ruenreong concluded Friday's second round of the 2016 NCAA Shoal Creek Regional tied for 25th place. The tournament is being hosted by the University of Alabama at the par-72, 6,470-yard Shoal Creek Club course.

Ruenreong  shot a six-over par 78 today and stands at nine-over par 153 in her first 36 holes. Florida State's Matilda Castren (74-71) and Northwestern's Kacie Komoto (72-73) are leading the 96-player field at one-over par 145. The No. 8 Wildcats have posted the top team score at 14-over par 590 (296-294), six strokes in front of the No. 22 Seminoles' total of 20-over par 596 (299-297).
Ruenreong opened her round with a par and birdie but then double-bogeyed and bogeyed her next two holes. She also double-bogeyed her seventh hole and made the turn at four-over. She saw a string of seven straight pars end with a bogey on No. 15 and tallied one more bogey on her final hole.

"Sathika played really great today except for her two holes that she double-bogeyed," Head Coach Nicole Hollingsworth said. "It was even windier today which made the scores higher than the first round. We're going to have play well tomorrow and that's what we're planning and hoping to do."

Ruenreong is one of 96 players, comprised of 18 teams and six individuals, taking part in the event, which is scheduled for three rounds. The final round will begin tomorrow with tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m. ET. Ruenreong is set to tee off at 9:15 a.m. ET.

The top six teams and the top three individuals not associated with those squads will advance to the NCAA Championship in Eugene, OR.

The field also includes 26 Top 100 players, with Ruenreong ranking 132nd in Golfstat's rankings. Kansas'  Yupaporn Kawinpakorn is the top player in the field at No. 3 nationally.
