
Toledo Wraps Up Regular Season vs. Eastern Michigan

TOLEDO, OH – Toledo (15-36-1, 10-11 MAC) will wrap up the regular season against Mid-American Conference West Division foe Eastern Michigan (20-31, 10-11 MAC) on Thursday-Saturday, May 19-21 at Scott Park. Thursday's and Friday's first pitch is slated for 3:05 p.m., while Saturday's contest will begin at 1:05 p.m.

Head coach Cory Mee expects junior LHP Steven Calhoun (4-8, 5.72 ERA) to start for the Rockets on Thursday. Senior LHP Ross Achter (6-6, 3.32 ERA), who leads the team in wins with six, is expected to toe the rubber on Friday. Junior RHP Sam Shutes (1-4, 4.53 ERA) will close the regular season on Saturday. LHP Michael Marsinek (2-4, 3.09 ERA), RHP Augie Gallardo (3-3, 4.21 ERA) and LHP Tyler Butzin (2-4, 3.09 ERA) will start for EMU.

The Rockets are 57-91 all-time vs. EMU, while Mee is 19-20 against the Eagles. Last year, UT took two-of-three over Eastern Michigan, taking home a 7-1 victory on May 14, 2015 and a 11-4 win on May 15, 2015.

UT is battling for position in the upcoming MAC tournament. The top eight teams as determined by conference winning percentage, regardless of division, will participate in the post-season, double-elimination tournament, which is slated to start at All Pro Freight Stadium in Avon, OH on May 25-29. The Rockets are currently tied with Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan and Central Michigan in the MAC standings. Toledo can finish as high as fourth in the conference.

The Midnight Blue & Gold is also looking to continue its fantastic play in the league as of late. UT has taken six-of-seven over league foes. UT took down Ball State twice by the score of 10-7 last weekend, and swept Northern Illinois on May 6-8. During the last two MAC weekends, freshman OF Ross Adolph is leading the charge, hitting .409 (9-for-22) with five RBI and two runs scored. On the mound, Achter has two victories with a miniscule 2.03 ERA over 13.1 innings. Achter has fanned seven batters in his last two outings and allowed just three earned runs.

In conference play, three Rockets are hitting over .300. Senior SS Deion Tansel leads the way with a .338 batting average, and has knocked in 10 RBI with a team-high 27 hits. Martillotta is hitting .307 with a team-best 17 RBI and Adolph is hitting .304 with 24 hits. Achter and Shutes have been fantastic in starts for UT. Achter a team-low 2.83 ERA over 41.1 innings tossed and Shutes has a 2.97 ERA over 30.1 frames.

Following the weekends action, Toledo will look to take the conference crown at the MAC Tournament beginning on Wednesday, May 25.
