Kalamazoo, MI – Toledo defeated Western Michigan, 3-1, on Friday afternoon at Fran Ebert Field. The Rockets enter tomorrow's doubleheader with an 11-31 overall record (4-11 MAC), while WMU drops to 18-11 overall and 9-5 in the conference.
 
Senior RHP Marla Gooding (9-15) helped propel Toledo to its victory by not allowing any earned runs or walking any batters. Gooding pitched for all seven innings and struck out two.
 
Senior LF Jessica Lemieux put Toledo on the board in the top of the first when she scored on a Broncos' throwing error.
 
Sophomore C Kaitlyn Bergman made it 2-0 in the second with her third home run of the season.
 
Lemieux doubled to left center in the top of the seventh, which allowed sophomore CF Ashley Rausch to plate a third Rocket run.
 
The Broncos crossed the plate once in the seventh.
 
The Rockets will return tomorrow for a doubleheader with the Broncos. First game is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.
