Toledo Falls Short Against Dayton, 12-10

TOLEDO, OH – Toledo scored a season-high 10 runs and at least one run in the first five innings, but fell short against Dayton (13-24), 12-10, at Scott Park on Tuesday, April 19. With the loss, the Rockets fall to 8-28-1.

Six Rockets – sophomore 1B Dalton Bollinger, sophomore CF AJ Montoya, sophomore 2B Matt Hansen, sophomore 3B Brad Boss, senior DH John Martillotta and senior RF Cory Finkler – all registered an RBI. Junior C Corey Tipton had the only multi-RBI day with a two-run home run over the left field fence.

Junior RHP Steven Duby was tagged with the loss. Duby did not give up an earned run, but allowed seven runs to cross the plate in 1.1 innings pitched. Sophomore RHP Nolan Silberhorn earned the start for the Rockets and pitched a career-high 4.0 frames and struck out a career-high three batters. Junior RHP Jordan Kesson and freshman RHP Luke Schaefer also pitched in relief, and did not allow an earned run to score.

Toledo scored a run in the first and second inning on wild pitches that scored Bollinger and Boss and gave UT a 2-0 advantage.

A Finkler double to left field and a Tipton home run over the left field fence extended that advantage to 5-0 in the third.

UT would put up another three-run inning in the fourth. Montoya ripped a single to right field to score Boss. Martillotta plated Tansel with a double to left field. After the bases were loaded with a walk, Hansen was hit by a pitch to bring in Montoya and made the game 8-0.

Dayton used two UT errors in the fifth to plate seven runs and cut the Toledo advantage to 8-7. Bollinger extended the UT lead to 9-7 with a single to left field in the same inning.

UD scored four more runs in the sixth to give the Flyers an 9-11 lead. Dayton would not relinquish the lead after the sixth, and would add another run on a fielding error in the seventh.

Toledo earned one back in the ninth with a sacrifice fly from Boss to score Finkler to make the game 10-12

The Rockets will be back in action April 20, 2016 at Michigan at 4:00 p.m.
