COLUMBUS, OH – Freshman
Pimchanok Kawil paced Toledo with a two-over par 146 (71-75) in Saturday's play at Ohio State's Lady Buckeye Invitational to help the Rockets to a fifth-place team standing. The tournament is being played on OSU's par-72, 6,319-yard Scarlet course and includes seven teams ranked in the Top 75 of Golfstat's national rankings.
UT shot an 11-over par 299 in its opening 18 holes and improved two strokes with a 297 in its second round of the day. The Rockets played shorthanded today after sophomore
Napaphan Phongpaiboon was forced to withdraw due to illness. The tourney is using a six-golfer, count-four scoring format instead of the traditional five-golfer, count-four scoring.
No. 14 Kent State is leading the 12-team field at one-under par 575 (288-287) and looking to win the event for a second year in a row. No. 57 Indiana is second at 10-over par 586, No. 43 Ohio State is third at 15-over par 591 and No. 42 Michigan State is fourth at 16-over par 592. UT is 17 strokes in front of No. 30 Augusta (613).
The Golden Flashes' Josee Doyon tops all individuals at six-under par 138 (70-68), three shots in front of the Spartans' Sarah Burnham at three-under par 141 (72-69). MSU's Gabby Yunk is in third place with an even-par 144 (74-70).
Kawil led UT with a one-under par 71 this morning thanks to birdieing two of her final three holes. Senior
Manisa Isavas topped the Rockets in the afternoon with an even-par 72 and finished strong as well with birdies on two of her final three holes.
Kawil will enter the final round tied for seventh place, seven spots in front of senior
Sathika Ruenreong (75-74) who is tied for 14
th place at five-over par 149. Isavas is tied for 20
th place at six-over par 150 (78-72), while freshman
Natcha Daengpiem is alone in 23
rd place at seven-over par 151 (75-76).
Freshman
Caitriona Griffin, who rounds out the Rocket lineup tied for 55
th place at 15-over par 161 (80-81), was at two-over par through nine holes in her first round and one-over through 10 holes in the second round.
Redshirt freshman
Hannah Kochendoerfer is competing as an individual and is in 72
nd place at 31-over par 177 (92-85).
Toledo will tee off in tomorrow's final round from 8:30 a.m.-9:20 a.m. The Rockets will be playing with Michigan State and Illinois.
