Rockets Drop Two at Central Michigan

Mount Pleasant, MI – Toledo dropped a pair of games at Central Michigan on Saturday afternoon in Mount Pleasant, MI. The Rockets lost the opener, 12-3, before suffering a 9-1 setback in game two. UT falls to 8-31 on the season and 3-11 in the conference, while the Chippewas improve to 18-21-1 overall and 5-8-1 in the MAC.
 
GAME 1
 Junior 3B Brittany George put Toledo on the board in the first with a three-run blast to left field. George brought in senior OF Jessica Lemieux and sophomore 1B Samantha Showalter who had reached on a single and a hit by pitch, respectively.
 
The Chippewas loaded the bases in the second and an RBI single plated their first run. Junior 2B Chandler Rice ended the inning with an incredible diving play.
 
The Central Michigan offense heated up in the fifth inning and surged to a 10-3 advantage The Chippewas scored nine runs off of four doubles and two singles.
 
CMU's Rachel Vieira ended the game with a two-run homer in the sixth.
 
Senior RHP Marla Gooding (7-15) took the loss for the Rockets after allowing six earned runs, walking four and only striking out one.
 
GAME 2
 Toledo scored first again in the second game of the day. Sophomore CF Ashley Rausch doubled off the wall in the second inning, bringing in senior LF Sammy Emery from first base.
 
CMU tied it up in the fourth with a solo homer off the scoreboard.
 
The Chippewas took the lead in the home half of the fifth with three runs off of two doubles.
 
Central Michigan extended its lead in the sixth and end the game 9-1.
 
Freshman RHP Heather Webb (1-10) was saddled with the loss after allowing four earned runs, walking four and striking out four.
