Toledo Drops Game One With Wright State, 8-1

Dayton, OH – Toledo (7-26-1, 3-6 MAC) dropped game one of the series with Wright State (23-10), 8-1, at Nischwitz Field. With the loss, the Rockets fall to 7-26-1.
 
Senior SS Deion Tansel etched his name in the UT record book with his 211th and 212th career hit during a 2-for-4 day. Tansel now sits tied for ninth all-time in Toledo history in hits and is tied with Ron Warga (1996-99). Joe Corfman (2009-12) is the all-time leader with 261.
 
Senior RF Ryan Callahan picked up the only RBI of the day with a fielder's choice. Callahan also ripped one double. Sophomore 1B Dalton Bollinger went 2-for-4 with one double and one run scored.
 
Junior LHP Steven Calhoun was tagged with the loss after allowing three earned runs over 6.0 frames while striking out three batters. Junior RHP Josh Cales, junior RHP Steven Duby and freshman RHP Parker Ruffer all pitched in relief for the Rockets. Cales and Ruffer did not allow a run to cross the plate.
 
Wright State jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first. Ryan Fucci hit a double down the left field line to score Sean Murphy. Murphy would score during the next at-bat when Daniel Arthur hit a double to left field.
 
Toledo earned one back in the top of the second. Bollinger starting the inning off with a double to left field. After a sacrifice bunt moved him to third base, he scored on a fielder's choice from Callahan.
 
WSU extended the advantage to 4-1 in the second. Sean Murphy ripped a single through the left side of the infield to score Zach Weatherford, and the next batter, Mitch Roman, brought Murphy home with a single to right field.
 
The Raiders once again hit back-to-back doubles to make the game 5-1.  Matt Morrow ripped a double and scored on a John Brodner two-bagger that was assisted by the sun.
 
The WSU advantage was extended when Morrow reached on a throwing error by the pitcher. The error scored Brad Macciocchi and Gabe Synder. The Raiders added another on a sacrifice fly from JD Orr to make the game 8-1.

The Rockets will be back in action on Saturday, April 16 at Nischwitz Field for game two of the series with Wright State beginning at 2:00 p.m.
