Toledo Hosts Division Foe Ball State on Saturday in Regular-Season Finale

TOLEDO, OH - Toledo (17-11, 12-5 MAC) will close out its regular season vs. Ball State (20-8, 12-5 MAC) on Saturday, March 5. The opening tip is slated for 2:00 p.m. in Savage Arena and can be seen on BCSN, TWCS and ESPN3.

Prior to tomorrow's regular-season finale, UT's two seniors - Ana Capotosto and Brenae Harris - will be honored. The duo have been a part of 81 overall victories over the last three-plus seasons, including 46 league wins.

Regardless of tomorrow's outcome, the Rockets will be one of the top four seeds in the Mid-American Conference Tournament and have earned a bye to the quarterfinals.

With a win against the Cardinals on Saturday, UT would receive the No. 3 seed and advance directly to the second round on Wednesday, March 9 at approximately 7:30 p.m.

With a victory versus BSU coupled with a Central Michigan loss, UT would earn a share of the MAC West Division title and garner the No. 2 seed and play on Wednesday at approximately 5:00 p.m.

With a loss to Ball State, Toledo would be the No. 4 seed and play on Wednesday at approximately 2:30 p.m.

Toledo enters tomorrow's division showdown on the heels of a thrilling 76-72 victory vs. CMU on Wednesday at home. Freshman Kaayla McIntyre's offensive putback with 1.7 seconds  left in regulation proved to be the game-winner, helping the Rockets sweep the regular-season series against the 2015-16 MAC West Division co-champions for the third time in the last five seasons.

With the shot clock off and only 20 seconds left in the contest, UT had the ball for a final shot. Sophomore Jay-Ann Bravo-Harriott went hard to basket and put up a shot that was off the mark to the left. The interior of the CMU defense helped out on the play, leaving McIntyre all alone on the backside. The Toledo native ripped down Bravo-Harriott's miss and successfully converted the putback to send the UT fans into a frenzy.

McIntyre scored 10 of her season-high 18 points in the fourth quarter to lead a season-tying best four Rockets in double figures. The first-year Rocket shot a sparkling 9-of-11 from the field to tally double digits for the sixth time this year.

Harris added 16 points, a team-tying high seven rebounds and six helpers, while junior Janice Monakana and Capotosto had 13 and 10 points, respectively.

As a team, Toledo shot a season-best 55.0 percent (33-of-60) from the field, including 46.2 percent (6-of-13) from three-point range, and a perfect 4-of-4 from the charity stripe..

For the season, UT continues to be fueled offensively by the quartet of Harris, Monakana, Bravo-Harriott and Capotosto, who are averaging 14.2, 11.2, 11.0 and 9.3 ppg, respectively.

UT, which sports an 8-4 (.667) record at home this season, will take on a talented BSU team which has won four of its last five games. Most recently, the Cardinals secured a 76-68 home win vs. Northern Illinois on Wednesday. MAC Player of the Year candidate Nathalie Fontaine led four Cardinals in double figures with 23 points and 10 boards, followed closely by Renee Bennett with 17 points and 10 caroms.

BSU, which is 8-6 (.571) away from home this year, features four players scoring at least 9.9 ppg and is paced by Fontaine's 20.9 ppg and 10.1 rpg. She currently sits second in the league in both categories.

As a team, the Cardinals rank in the top two in the conference in overall field-goal percentage (1st, .427, 689-of-1,614), assists (1st, 16.5 apg), overall field-goal percentage (2nd, 615-of-1,667), free throw percentage (2nd, 406-of-549), rebounding margin (2nd, +6.5, 40.4-33.9), assist/turnover ratio (2nd, 1.0, 16.2-16.9) and scoring margin (2nd, +8.4).

Toledo and Ball State will meet for the second time this year and 75th time overall. The Rockets dropped a 75-69 decision against the Cardinals in Worthen Arena on Jan. 2.

UT holds a 52-22 (.703) advantage in the all-time series, including a 27-7 (.794) edge in contests played at home. BSU has held the upper hand in the series as of late, though, winning the last four meetings between the division rivals.

A season ago, Toledo sustained a 69-61 setback versus BSU at home (Feb. 7).
