Rockets Split First Day of Mustang Classic

San Luis Obispo, CA – Toledo split its first two games in the SLO Mustang Classic on Friday at Bob Janssen Field. The Rockets opened the day with a 5-0 blanking of St. Peter's before falling to host Cal Poly, 9-0. UT is now 3-11 on the season.
 
In game one, senior RHP Marla Gooding (3-5) hurled a complete game with four strikeouts and no earned runs to pick up the victory against St. Peter's.
 
Leading Toledo offensively was junior INF Chandler Rice, who went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Sophomore C Kaitlyn Bergman collected two hits with a homer for UT.
 
Senior Jessica Lemieux started things off for the Rockets with an RBI single in the third, scoring Ashley Rausch who had reached on a double.
 
Toledo added a second run in the fifth following an RBI single by Rausch that scored Bergman.
 
Rice hit a two-run homer to extend the Rockets' lead to four in the sixth. Bergman closed out the scoring in the inning with a solo blast off the scoreboard.

In game two, freshman P Danni Ryan (0-4) was saddled with the loss for the Rockets after throwing 4.0 innings and giving up five earned runs.
 
Ryan walked a batter with the bases loaded to put Cal Poly on the board in the bottom of the second. The Mustangs added another run to lead 2-0 after two frames.
 
Cal Poly's Sierra Hyland's grand slam in the fourth extended the Mustangs' lead to six. The Mustangs ended the game in the sixth by scoring a run on a wild pitch as well as a two-run triple.
 
UT returns to the field tomorrow morning to battle St. Peter's.
