Rockets Shot Down by Buffalo in Final Game of the Weekend

TOLEDO, OH – Toledo (5-23, 0-3 MAC) dropped a 6-3 decision to Buffalo (9-19, 3-0 MAC) in its third and final game of the weekend series.

Sophomore 1B Samantha Showalter paced the Rockets offensively, going 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run and an RBI. Sophomore OF Ashley Rausch went 2-for-3 with a run and a stolen base.

Freshman RHP Heather Webb (0-8) was saddled with the loss against the Bulls after pitching 5.0 innings and allowing five earned runs.

Buffalo jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second with an RBI single by Lauren Gambone.

The Rockets answered back with two runs in the third. Rausch reached first on a single to left field and advanced to second when senior OF Jessica Lemieux grounded out to short. After stealing third, Rausch scored on freshman SS Megan Choate's single through the left side. Choate advanced to third on a Buffalo error after junior 2B Chandler Rice singled up the middle. Choate was able to cross the plate on Showalter's RBI single to left field.

The Bulls regained the lead in their half of the fifth. Senior RHP Marla Gooding (1.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K) entered the game to relieve Webb after UB loaded the bases on two walks and a single. Buffalo took advantage of the bases-loaded situation and plated three runs on a Rocket error and a pair of RBI singles.

Toledo cut UB's lead to 4-3 in the sixth when Showalter's sacrifice fly scored Webb.

Webb returned to the circle for the Rockets in the bottom of the sixth. The Bulls scored two RBI to close out the scoring, 6-3.

The Rockets were unable to plate a run in the seventh and lost by a final score of 6-3.

The Midnight Blue & Gold welcome the Miami RedHawks to Scott Park on April 1-2. Friday's single game is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. with the Saturday doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
