GAME NOTES
TOLEDO, OH – Toledo (3-18-1, 0-0 MAC) will open its home and Mid-American Conference slate with a three-game series against Buffalo (6-10, 0-0 MAC), beginning on Friday, March 25 at 3:05 p.m.
Head Coach Cory Mee expects senior LHP Steven Calhoun (1-4, 5.13) to start on Friday for the Rockets. Junior RHP Kyle Slack (0-2, 10.32) should pitch on Saturday and senior LHP Ross Achter (2-3, 4.18) will toe the rubber on Sunday.
Mee currently holds a 17-9 record over the Bulls. The Midnight Blue & Gold last faced UB in the 2013 MAC Tournament, where UT picked up a 4-1 win on May 24, 2013. Buffalo was picked to finish fifth in the MAC East Division after picking up 22 points in the 2016 MAC Baseball Preseason Coaches' Poll.
Last time out, freshman INF Riley Campbell led the way on the offensive end. Campbell picked up a career-high three RBI and tied a career-high in hits with two. Sophomore OF AJ Montoya added two hits and one RBI, and senior OF John Martillotta scored two runs and ripped three hits in the 14-6 loss at Dayton.
Junior RHP Steven Duby continued his stellar season out of the bullpen against the Flyers. Duby did not give up an earned run in 1.0 innings and improved his ERA to a low 0.50. Over eight appearances and 18.0 frames, Duby has allowed just one earned run and scattered seven hits this season.
Last weekend, the Rockets picked up one win over Big Ten member Indiana. Senior LHP Ross Achter earned his second victory of the season after throwing a career-high 7.0 innings and striking out a career-high six batters. Achter earned Mid-American Conference West Pitcher Player of the Week for his performance.
The Bulls head to Scott Park after falling in a midweek contest at Canisius, 9-5. UB also dropped two of three at Northeastern last weekend.
All three contests can be watched live on ESPN3. Toledo will be back in action on Wednesday, March 30 at 6:35 p.m. at Ohio State.Â
