Toledo picked up its first win in program history over Indiana, 3-1, at Bart Kaufman Field on Saturday, March 19. With the win, the Rockets improve to 3-15-1.
"Ross pitched great today," head coach Cory Mee said. "Casey and Michael did the job well in relief. "We were good defensively, came up with a couple of big hits today and executed our formula of pitching, playing defense, and clutch hitting. I love our how are team competed today."
Senior Ross Achter earned his second win of the season after allowing just one run over 7.0 innings. Achter struck out a career-high six batters during the victory.
Freshman Casey Johnson did not allow a run in 1.2 innings. Freshman Michael Jacob earned his second career save after striking out the only batter he faced in the contest.
Senior SS Deion Tansel, sophomore DH Brad Boss and senior C Lucas Sokol all picked up one RBI in the win. Tansel also scored a run and walked once. Freshman 2B Riley Campbell also added two hits and scored one run.Â
Boss put the Rockets on the board first with an RBI single to score Tansel and give UT a 1-0 lead in the third inning.
The Midnight Blue & Gold would add two more runs in the fourth. Sokol grounded out to the shortstop to bring home senior RF Ryan Callahan, and Tansel would drive in Campbell with an single to extend the UT lead to 3-0.
Indiana was able to cut the lead in the sixth with a Ryan Fineman RBI single, but could not produce any more runs.
Toledo will wrap up the series tomrrow at Bart Kaufman Field with a doubleheader beginning at noon. Â
