Toledo Falls to Notre Dame, 10-3

South Bend, IN – Toledo fell to Notre Dame (7-8, 0-3 ACC), 10-3, at Frank Eck Stadium on Wednesday, March 16.  With the loss, the Rockets drop to 2-14-1.

Senior RHP Kyle Slack (0-2, 10.32) picked up the loss after allowing five earned runs in 3.1 innings pitched.  Sophomore RHP Alex Wagner, junior RHP Kevin Kline, freshman RHP Luke Schaefer and sophomore RHP Kyle Rago all pitched in relief for the Rockets. Schaefer and Rago each pitched a full inning and did not allow a run to cross the plate.

Michael Hearne earned the win for the Fighting Irish after throwing five innings and allowing one run to cross the plate while striking out seven batters.

Leading the way offensively was sophomore 3B Brad Boss, who hit his first career home run in the eighth inning.  The two-run round-tripper was his only plate appearance of the day.  Sophomore 1B Dalton Bollinger added one RBI during a 2-for-3 game.

Toledo jumped out to an early lead when Bollinger ripped a ground-rule double to right-center field that scored senior SS Deion Tansel. The high winds, with gusts up to 50 MPH throughout the night, helped the ball carry to the warning track and bounced over the fence.

Notre Dame took the lead in the bottom of the second. Connor Stutts hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring home Matt Vierling to tie game at 1-1.  Cavan Biggio put the Fighting Irish in front in the next at-bat with a single to right field and a wild pitch increased the Irish lead to 3-1.

The Fighting Irish extended its advantage in the fourth with a groundout that would bring home Lane Richards.  Connor Stutts hit a solo home run to extend UND's lead to 5-1. Wagner entered the game for UT, and gave up a two-run double to right field to Ricky Sanchez to make the game 7-1.

Notre Dame added three more in the eighth with a single from Jake Johnson that plated Biggio and give the Irish an 8-1 lead.  Zak Kutsulis ripped a single to right field to extend the lead to 9-1. A Tansel error allowed Sanchez to score give the Irish a 10-1 advantage.

Boss' homer cut UND's lead in the eighth inning to seven with a two-run home run to right field.

Toledo will be back in action for a four-game series with Indiana, beginning on Friday, March 18 at 4:35 p.m.
