Toledo Drops Both Games in Doubleheader with Marshall

Huntington, WV – Toledo dropped both games in today's doubleheader with Marshall, falling 5-3 in the first game and 8-3 in the second. The Rockets fall to 4-19 on the season, while the Herd improves to 14-8.

Junior Celeste Fidge led the Rockets' offense vs. the Herd after going 3-for-5 and recording her first home run of the season. Senior Jessica Lemieux (2-8) and junior Chandler Rice (2-7) also recorded multi-hit performances against Marshall.

Game 1
Senior Marla Gooding (4-9) took the loss for the Rockets after hurling 5.1 innings. Gooding allowed three earned runs, five walks and struck out two.

Marshall hopped on the board in the first when Briana Daiss singled to left field to allow Kaelynn Greene to score from third.

With two outs in the third, Marshall's Ali Burdette hit her first homer of the season to give the Herd a 2-0 lead.

Marshall extended its lead to 4-0 in the fourth after Elicia D'Orazio stole home and Daiss' sacrifice fly allowed Greene to cross the plate.

The Herd scored their final run of the game when Alyssa Woodrum hit her first home run of the season in the home half of the fifth.

The Rockets managed to plate three runs in the sixth. Fidge hit an RBI single to center field, allowing Sammy Emery and Chandler Rice to score. Brittany George then ripped a double to left-center to allow Fidge to cross the plate.

Game 2
Freshman Heather Webb was saddled with her fifth loss of the season after game two against the Herd. Webb threw for 3.0 innings, allowing five earned runs and walking three.

Marshall jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first after Taylor McCord ripped a double to right field to plate two runners and Raquel Escareno hit a sacrifice fly to score the third run.

The Herd extended their lead to 5-0 with single runs in the second and third.

Celeste Fidge put a Toledo run on the board after she homered to center field to make the score 5-1 in the fourth inning.

Marshall closed out the fourth with an RBI single to right field to bring in runners from second and third.

The Herd plated their eighth and final run in the fifth with an RBI single to right-center.

In the sixth inning, freshman Katie Cozy singled to short, allowing sophomore Ashley Rausch to cross the plate. Rausch had previously reached on a wild pitch. Emery reached first on an error by the first baseman, allowing Rice to score the Rockets' third run. Rice had also reached on an error by the first baseman.

Toledo did not commit any errors on the day, while the Herd committed four.

Toledo will travel to Morehead, KY to battle the Eagles tomorrow in its last two non-conference games. The first game is slated to begin at 2:00 p.m.
