Morehead, KY – Toledo (5-20) split Wednesday's twinbill with Morehead State. The Rockets defeated the Eagles, 3-2, in eight innings in the opener before falling 2-0 in game two.
 
Junior C Ashley Maynard led UT's offense, going 3-for-7 with a double and an RBI. Senior OF Jessica Lemieux (2-for-5) and junior INF Chandler Rice (2-for-7) also both recorded multi-hit performances against the Eagles.
 
 
Game 1
Senior Marla Gooding (5-9) recorded the win for the Rockets after throwing all 8.0 innings. Gooding allowed two earned runs, two walks and struck out three.
 
Toledo took a 1-0 lead in the second when Lemieux singled through the left side, allowing Maynard to score after she had reached on a single.
 
The Rockets extended their lead to 2-0 in the fourth frame. Kaitlyn Bergman reached first after being hit by a pitch and advanced to third after two wild pitches. With two outs, Katie Cozy reached first on a fielding error by the second basemen that allowed Bergman to score.
 
The Eagles plated two runs in the sixth when Karly Thompson singled to the right-center gap.
 
With both teams tie at 2-2 at the end of the seventh, the game went into the eighth inning in accordance with the international tiebreaker rule.
 
Celeste Fidge was placed on second base to start the eighth. Fidge advanced to third after Brittany George grounded out to first. Maynard doubled down the left-field line,  to plate Fidge for UT's only run of the inning.
 
In the home half of the eighth, the runner placed on second was picked off by Bergman. The Eagles followed with line out to Lemieux in right field and ground out to George to close out the inning.
 
Game 2
Freshman Heather Webb recorded her fifth loss after pitching 4.1 innings. Webb allowed two earned runs and walked four.
 
Toledo and MSU were both silenced offensively for the majority of the game. The teams only recorded a combined seven hits.
 
MSU's Karly Thompson led off the sixth inning with her fifth home run of the season. The Eagles added an insurance run later in the frame.
 
Toledo is off until next weekend when it opens conference play on March 25-26 in Buffalo, NY. Toledo will play a single game against the Bulls on Friday at 3:00 p.m., before returning on Saturday for a doubleheader.
