Rockets Conclude Matador Classic with Losses to GCU and No. 24 Oregon St.

Northridge, CA - Toledo (4-17) dropped a 7-2 decision to No. 24 Oregon State after falling to Grand Canyon, 10-2, on its third and final day of action at the Matador Classic.

Senior OF Jessica Lemieux led the Rockets offensively in the two contests, going 4-for-6 on the day with a homer in game two. Junior Celeste Fidge was the only other Rocket to record a hit, going 2-for-4 in the two games.

Game 1
Freshman Danni Ryan (0-5) took the loss against the Antelopes after pitching 4.0 innings and allowing nine earned runs, walking two and striking out two.

Grand Canyon jumped on the board in the first with two runs scored on a wild pitch and a fielding error by the Rockets. The Antelopes extended their lead to four with a two-run double in the second.

GCU's Camree Wartman hit a two-run homer to center field in the third inning to put the Antelopes at a six-run advantage and added an RBI double and RBI single later in the frame to extend the score to 8-0.

The Rockets scored their only two runs in the fifth inning. Freshman Kim Frank pinch-ran for sophomore C Kaitlyn Bergman who had reached first on a walk. Frank advanced to third on a single through the right side by senior OF Jessica Lemieux. Freshman Salwa Al-Hajabed singled up the middle to plate Frank and send Lemieux to third. Senior OF Samantha Emery entered the game to pinch-run for Al-Hajabed and was caught stealing second while Lemieux scored the Rockets' second run.

The Lopes ended the game, 10-2, with two runs in the sixth.

Game 2
Freshman Heather Webb (0-4) was saddled with the loss in game two after hurling a complete game for the Rockets.

The Beavers plated their first run in the second inning when Webb walked a batter with the bases loaded.

OSU brought its lead to 2-0 in the fourth with a homer from Kayleen Shafer.

In the top of the fifth, Lemieux tied the score, 2-2, with her second homer of the season.

The Beavers answered with a run in home half of the fifth to regain the lead, 3-2. OSU sealed its win on Madison Anthony's grand slam in the sixth.

The Rockets remain on the road this week with their last two non-conference doubleheaders. UT will visit Marshall on Tuesday, March 15 and Morehead State on Wednesday, March 16.
