Jacksonville, FL – Toledo dropped a close 2-1 contest to Jacksonville (9-3) on Friday, March 11 at Sessions Stadium. With the loss, the Rockets fall to 1-12-1.
"It was a game that went right to the final out," head coach Cory Mee said. "I'm proud of the way our guys are competing. It's tough for us right now."
Freshman Ross Adolph led the way offensively for the Rockets. Adolph picked up his first collegiate hit and RBI at a huge point in the game. Down two runs in the eighth, Adolph ripped a one RBI double and put himself in position to tie the game.
"Ross had a great fall," Mee said. "That was a huge hit for us that scored a runner and put the tying run on second base. He was huge for us."
Senior SS Deion Tansel and senior CF John Martillotta both picked up two hits for the Rockets on the evening. Tansel also added a run.
Steven Calhoun picked up the loss for the Rockets after throwing 6.0 solid innings and allowed two earned runs. Calhoun struck out six and walked four.
Michael Baumann earned the win after throwing 7.0 frames and striking out eight.
Jacksonville struck first in the second inning when Angel Camacho grounded out to the shortstop which brought home JJ Gould from third. The Dolphins would the put two runners on scoring position, but Calhoun would strike out the final batter of the inning to limit the damage.
JU extended the lead to 2-0 when Sean Dewitt walked to bring home a run.
The Rockets would get one run back in the eighth as Adolph ripped a double down the left field line to score Tansel. UT was unable to bring Adolph home to tie the game.
The Rockets are back in action tomorrow against Jacksonville at 2:00 p.m. at Sessions Stadium.
