Vero Beach, FL – Toledo fell to Niagara on a walk off fielder's choice in the bottom of the 10
th, 4-3 at field two of Dodgertown in game three of the Historic Dodgertown Classic. Â The Rockets drop to 0-3 on the young season.
"I'm really proud of the way we competed in tonight's game," head coach
Cory Mee said. "I thought our defensive play was outstanding and it gave us the opportunity to win the game. Offensively, we are on the verge of breaking out but we need to just put some more quality at-bats together."
Freshman
Michael Jacob picked up the loss after pitching 3.1 innings, giving up two earned runs with six strikeouts in his collegiate debut.
"We got great pitching performances today," Mee said. "
Sam Shutes first outing coming back from injury was solid as well as
Steven Duby who picked us up in the middle innings. Michael was outstanding tonight and I love the presence he has on the mound."
RHP
Sam Shutes started the game and went 2.1 innings with one strikeout and gave up two earned runs.Â
Steven Duby went for 3.2 innings with one strikeout and did not allow a run to cross the plate.
Junior
Corey Tipton led the way offensively going 2-for-2 with an RBI.

Matt Hansen, who reached after being hit by a pitch. Niagara answered immediately with two runs of their own after stringing three singles together.
The Midnight Blue & Gold regained the lead in the top of the seventh, as UT loaded up the bases with one out. Junior
Corey Tipton was hit by a pitch to bring a runner home to tie the game. Hansen then hit a long sacrifice fly to left field to bring the go ahead run home.
The game would head to extras, and Niagara would load the bases after a walk, single and intentional walk. Hayden Coll hit a ground ball to third baseman that brought the winning run in for the Purple Eagles.
Toledo will wrap up the Historic Dodgertown Classic against Ohio State on Feb. 21 at 2:30 p.m. at Holman Stadium.Â
