Toledo Returns Home to Continue MAC Play Against Ball State and Miami

9/30/2015 4:19:00 PM

TOLEDO, OH – Toledo (4-7-0, 0-2-0) will return home to continue Mid-American Conference action against Ball State (6-2-2, 2-0-0) on Friday, Oct. 2 at 4:00 p.m. at Scott Park.  Two days later, the Rockets will face Miami (6-3-0, 2-0-0) on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 1:00 p.m. in the Glass City.

The Rockets began league play last weekend against MAC West division foes Northern Illinois and Western Michigan. UT dropped both contests, 2-0 and 1-0, respectively.

"It's always tough to win on the road," first-year head coach TJ Buchholz said. "NIU and WMU are good teams, and we were challenged in each contest. We played well enough in each match to win, but we just couldn't find the back of the net."

The Midnight Blue & Gold welcome two quality squads to Scott Park this weekend.  BSU and MU both opened MAC play with two wins each, and have only given up a combined 14 goals this season.  The Preseason MAC Coach's Poll selected the RedHawks as the favorite to win the MAC Tournament.

The Rockets have played 11 contests this season, and nine have been away from Toledo.  During UT's limited time at home, they are 2-0-0.  Buchholz knows what playing at home means to the team.

"It's nice to play at Scott Park," Buchholz said. "We've shown how much we like playing at home in our first two contests. Sometimes it's nice to be in a routine and do things like sleep in your own bed the night before a match."
Senior Megan Connor echoed Buchholz's sentiments.

"We love playing on own our field and in front of our own fans," Connor said. "It's much easier on your body to play at home."

Toledo holds a 7-8-1 record against Ball State, and UT shutout the Cardinals 3-0 last year in Muncie. The Rockets are 11-8-1 all-time against Miami, with their last win coming on Oct. 2, 2011 in Oxford.

Following this weekend's two matches, Toledo will remain at home to take on archrival Bowling Green on Friday, Oct. 9 at 4:00 during the UT Homecoming weekend. The Rockets will finish the weekend with a contest against Eastern Michigan on Sunday, Oct. 11 at 1:00 p.m.
